SOMALI COAST - The U.S. Navy has rescued Richard Phillips, the American sea captain held by Somali pirates.

Mr. Phillips was safely taken to a Navy warship nearby.

Officials say Mr. Phillips wasn't hurt in a fire-fight off the Somali coast today.

However, three pirates were killed in the fire-fight, and one was injured and taken into custody.

The pirate in custody could face life in a U.S. prison.

Under U.S. law, both piracy and hostage-taking carry life sentences, but the F.B.I. and the Justice Department say no decisions have been made regarding charges against him.
