DALLAS — An Associated Press review shows the CEO of American Airlines' parent company got compensation valued at more than $5.2 million last year, an 11 percent increase over 2009.

AMR Corp. says the increase in compensation for Gerard Arpey was almost entirely due to higher values on stock grants and options. His salary was unchanged at $669,646, and he got no bonus.

The increase in stock and option awards came during a year in which AMR was the only leading U.S. airline company to lose money.

The AP's calculation is based on a regulatory filing Thursday. It counts salary, bonuses, perks and stock and options awarded to the executive during the year.
