Longview, TX — More Americans — and East Texas residents — are taking to the rails for their transportation needs.
Amtrak officials this past week reported records for overall national ridership and for the Texas Eagle route that passes through Longview and East Texas.
The Chicago-to-Los Angeles route of the Texas Eagle counted 337,973 passengers in the fiscal year ending Sept. 30. That was up 12.8 percent from the 299,508 passengers who rode the route the previous year.
On the revenue end, the route generated $26.3 million in the just-ended fiscal year. That was up 7.5 percent from the $24.475 million of fiscal year 2011, officials said.
