Noel Franks has been battling a chronic renal insufficiency since 1992, and over the decades, his condition rollercoastered, until now.

"So they did a lot of testing, I had 60% function, and just over the years it's kind of gone down and down and down," said Noel.

Which meant he needed a kidney transplant, and although many in the city of Rusk came forward to get tested, the kidney that was most compatible, belonged to the woman he had been compatible with for close to a decade, Noel's wife Brandi.

"I'd been praying for my will not god's will and whenever i found it was her you know i realized i need to be praying for god's will," said Noel.

It was good news that may have shocked the community, but not Brandi.

"I don't know why i wasn't but when the transplant coordinator called me and she said are you sitting down and I said 'Yes', and then she told me that I was a match, I really wasn't surprised," said Brandi.

The people of Rusk are continuing their support, holding a spaghetti dinner benefit for the family.

"They're just, they're just great people and we love them very much" said Noel.

He says no matter how the transplant goes, through this entire process, he has grown closer to God.

And for Brandi, she says she is just a little closer to her husband.

"Obviously i love him more than i did you know 18 years ago."

The dinner will be held at 6:30 p.m.. At the Cherokee County Electric Coop.
