In separate actions, the Angelina County Commissioners Court on Tuesday approved adjustments in the county’s election and commissioner precincts and justice of the peace and constable precincts.

Commissioner adopted boundaries for justice of the peace and constable precincts that would reduce the number of justice of the peace and constable precincts from five to four.

The boundaries consolidate Precinct 4, which includes Zavalla and the southern portion of the county, with Precinct 3, which includes Huntington.

However, the changes would not immediately come into effect for at least three years, county officials said, as Precinct 4 Justice of the Peace Claude Marshall Jr. is in the first year of a four-year term.

State statute provides that counties with the population of Angelina maintain a minimum of four precincts.

Commissioner Scott Cooper said the county intends to maintain a tax office, possibly part-time, and continue to offer automobile registration services in the affected part of the county.
