United States Bench Rest Regional Rimfire Match, May 12, 2012
Texas Bench Rest Shootout Match, May 13, 2012

The Angelina Rifle and Pistol Club will host two shooting sport matches featuring some of the top marksmen in
the nation. Competitors will use some of the most accurate 22 caliber rifles and ammunition made. The United
States Bench Rest (USBR) Regional Rimfire Match is Saturday May 12 and the Texas Bench Rest Shootout
follows on May 13. All shooters are welcome to compete.

Marksmen will try to hit a 1/10 of an inch bulls-eye at fifty yards. Winning is simple, hit more of the 25 bullseyes
on your target than anyone else. Each bulls-eye counts 10 points. The slightly larger rings around it count
less. The highest possible score is 250 and no one has done it yet. The current national record score is 248.
Angelina Rifle and Pistol Club has a range record of 247. Maybe a new national record could be set soon in
Texas. The USBR Regional is open to anyone and details are on the club's web site.

The Texas Bench Rest Shootout winners share purses of $500 for the Unlimited class and $300 for the Custom
Class or more based on the number of entrants. Like other sports, the competition is intense, matched only by the
camaraderie of friendly people who love shooting sports. The best marksmen in this region are invited to see if
they can out shoot each other. If you can, you might walk away with the top prize! The club's web site
www.angelinarifleandpistolclub.org has the entry form and details. This competition is also open to anyone,
professional or recreational shooters. It's a first for bench rest shooters in East Texas.

There are three classes of rifle: Sporter (mildly modified), Custom (major modifications) and Unlimited (any
goes as long as it is a legal 22LR firearm). Sporter rifles are off the shelf usually with some minor modifications.
Custom and Unlimited rifles are some of the best examples of gunsmith skills ever crafted. Target scopes used
are so powerful that shooters can count the hairs on a fly's leg at 50 yards. The bench rests used by the
competitors range from sand bags to custom machined masterpieces that are so steady that a laser beam will not
move more than a few thousands of an inch between shots. Shooters have to master breath control, trigger
pressure, sight picture and steady consistent concentration on twenty-five bulls-eyes. Not to mention wind that
can move the bullet off-target, so “Kentucky windage” is always a factor. It harder than it seems to hit the bullseye.

We can't use the title “Top Shot” for our winners because that belongs to Top Shot 2011 Winner Dustin
Ellerman. Dustin is probably the most famous marksman in Texas since Davy Crockett and a fine humble young
man. We are proud of this local native son. Dustin will probably not be able to be present because he is busy
running his camp for kids. But, if he is able to be with us look out. Donations to Dustin Ellerman's “Camp His
Way” ( www.camphisway.com) will also be accepted during the matches and will be passed on by the club.

Angelina Rifle and Pistol Club is a sport shooting range in Angelina County, Texas. All club members are
members of the National Rifle Association and it is affiliated with Texas State Rifle Association. The club has
several rifle and pistol ranges for its members use. The club frequently hosts matches and tournaments for
several organized shooting sports. Other groups also safely use the range with permission such as ROTC, 4-H,
Boy Scouts and Texas public safety officers.
