DALLAS (AP) - In keeping with a scaled-down theme for Texas'
inaugural celebrations, first lady Anita Perry will modify a gown
she wore to her son's wedding and wear it to the inaugural evening
celebration.

Perry had sleeves added to the floor-length gown of golden silk
designed by Robert Danes, a San Antonio native now working in New
York City.

Texas Gov. Rick Perry was elected to a record third term in
November. Tuesday's privately funded inaugural festivities in
Austin will include a swearing-in ceremony, a free afternoon
barbeque and an evening celebration calling for cocktail attire.

Anita Perry says in a Friday statement, "I believe in shopping
your closet and using what you have if it will still work."

She says she was "delighted" the designer was able to
"repurpose" the gown.

I suppose I appreciate the sentiment, but how many other things in her closet have been worn only once? Bravo on hiring the local artist though. I think that's the more important bit of the story if you ask me.
