The short lull that local firefighters have enjoyed, didn’t last long.
Another fire in Rusk County today, but fortunately, they caught it in time.
The folks who live on this county road might be forgiven for thinking they are snake bit.
Just when they thought the worst was over last week, it starts again.
It’s a fairly short, dead end Rusk County road.
And just last week, a fire consumed over 50 acres and drove the folks that live along here from their homes.
And today, they smelled smoke again.
This is county road 316D in Rusk County just south of Henderson. We were here just last week for a large fire just up the road. This one is technically not a restart. It’s a whole new fire.
Rusty Ivy of the Henderson Fire Department, was the incident commander on the scene, and he says they got this one in time.
“It started around 9 something this morning.” Ivy said. “The first thing we did was call the forestry department for backup brush trucks. We’ve got it contained right now 90%.”
This is the end of the road, and one family had to be evacuated, but fortunately, because of the earlier blaze, crews were nearby and on alert.
They had bulldozers here earlier cutting firelines, and they’ll be here for awhile linger looking for hot spots.
Incidentally, there is a benefit Saturday for the Rusk County firefighters association in the Wal Mart parking lot from 11 to 5.
Like everyone else, they are hurting, and have gone through 2 years worth of their fuel budget in the last few weeks.
