Tyler Junior College is not going to start a hockey team.

But the Apaches are glad that the Dallas Stars are back in the playoffs again.

"Years ago they had quite a run with Mike Modano and the Stanley Cup," TJC baseball coach Doug Wren told KETK. "They brought some hockey excitement to the DFW area."

"It's fun to see them back in the playoffs," Wren added.

"I've been to a few Dallas Stars games," said TJC student assistant Trenton Buchhorn. "It's a fun atmosphere."

"I've never been to playoff hockey," Buchhorn added. "I'm excited to see if I can get some tickets."

Perhaps the most excited athlete on the Apache baseball team about the Stars is catcher Brandon Webb.

"When I was seven-years-old I played ice hockey," Webb said. "I loved it growing up."

"I played until I was twelve," Webb added. "It got pretty expensive so I decided to play baseball."

"But I've always loved hockey," Webb said. "I grew up a hockey fan."

"I grew up a hockey player," Webb added. "It's still my favorite pastime."

More focus should be on hockey in your news. We have a local rink (the Kilgore Skateland) that lets adults play roller hockey on Sunday nights. Kids can play on Thursdays. Lot of hockey fans and players in East Texas. GO STARS!
