Studies show that kids in this generation spend nearly eight hours using a media product.

So whether kids are playing video games, using an iPad, or on the Web, they are only reading for approximately twenty-five minutes a day.

However when we went to ask some kids here in East Texas if they still enjoy reading, we got a different response.

Many children responded by saying that they loved reading and told KETK what their favorite books were.

Keith Garcia, director of Vista Academy told KETK how important it is for parents to instill the basics of reading a hard copy book with their children.  He said that once kids get that in their system they can then be introduced to the computer aspect and have a balance of both.

Garcia told KETK that often times kids that simply use animated devices with lots of graphics struggle comprehending the story and then can no longer focus long enough to read a book without pictures.

Studies also state that children in households with a hundred books or more have better test results.
