Are stricter handgun laws needed after the Fort Hood Terror Attack?

November 13, 2009 - 8:29am

Tyler—

Do you think more and stricter handgun laws are needed before anyone is able to purchase a pistol or any firearm?

Jung firearms should be taken off the streets and shelves of dealers. It is these junk weapons that are purchased which cause much of the problem we see today. Yes I am for gun control, but lets make it selective. Lets tax the weapons like we tax tobacco and other offensive and people damaging substances. Let this tax go towards the positive control of weapons for hunting and other sports. We hunt to cull out the herds of deer and other species so they can become healthier and more abundant.

I am not a hunter, but I see the value of hunting as a means of control and wildlife so the species can better survive. Taxing weapons for hunting and protection can provide this.

We are guaranteed the right to defend ourselves against OUTSIDERS, not against our fellow Americans. That is what we have law enforcement. If we protect our weapons and not make them available to be stolen and/or sold to thugs, then we can become a better people. This is the RIGHT TO BEAR ARMS!

Gerald, you don't have a clue about what you are talking about. The 2nd amendment has to do with citizens being able to own firearms who are NOT in the military. It also has nothing to do with hunting or target shooting. It was intended to make it impossible for a Tyrant from outside this country, or one that rises up from within this country from enslaving the American people. Read the Constitution and the Federal and Anti-Federalist papers, they spell it all out for everybody. US code title 10 and 32 defines it even further. Don't fall into the infantile gun control mindset that has been used all around the world by tyrants throughout history to disarm and then enslave entire populations.

No we don't need the government to make more laws. Who would they protect? Not the ones who aren't drug dealers, prepeat offenders, wife beaters, etc. I am single woman and I will use mine if and when I have to in order to protect myself, property and and family member including my adult children. The goverment needs to worry about what they were put in office to do. I have every right to bear arms. It's part of my freedom that my father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncles and friends sacrificed their lives for.
For the ones who want to take this away from us, who gives you the right and who sacrificed their lives for you over the years for such freedom that you have been given?

ANTI GUN LAWS ONLY PROTECT CRIMINALS AND
PEOPLE WHO WANT TO DESTROY THE U.S.A.
A PROVEN FACT.

THE MUSLEM AT FT HOOD KILLED ONLY 13 PEOPLE
AND INJURED LESS THAN ONE HUNDRED.

ONE INDIVIDUAL MUSLEM WITH THE AID OF MONEY FROM MUSLEMS IN FOREIGN COUNTRIES,
AND SOME U.S.INDIVIDUALS, IS KILLING, DAY BY DAY,THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA; SEVERAL MILLION U.S. CITIZENS.

Gerald. I am one that has hunted with a handgun. I shot 2 caribou with a 44 mag. That is the ultimate home defence hand gun. When the libs take our guns you can kiss ALL your freedoms goodby. What we need is not nore gun control, but elemination of the stupid PC cr__ that kept that nut in the military and promoted him because he was a muslum.

as a disabled veteran (paraplegic / amputee) i am wheelchair bound and lost my right leg, i hunt with pistols for small game animals, a rifle / shotgun is too front heavy and pulls me forward in my chair and i can not safely fire the weapon, also the recoil of a rifle could and has flipped me over in my chair, so pistols are my only option without spending several 1000's of dollars on tripods and other safety gear to give me the ability to safely use a rifle. i fought for all americans rights and foriegners for that matter and yet everyday i see people wanting to take away my right and my only ability for hunting.

not too long ago i seen a post about the number of rounds in the clip asking why more than 6-7 rounds are needed, hunting last year i was attacked by a pack of wild dogs, i killed 7 b4 they ran away, normally in that situation the first shot or two they take off but they kept coming, if i didnt have that pistol and the amount of rounds in it i would probably be dead today.

ALOT of americans look at gun control from only their perspective, they forget some of us are limited to using certain weapons for disabilities, the only rifle i own i can safely use is an m-4, its lightweight, short length barrel length, and as such it makes it 300% more safe for myself and others hunting for me to use as i have 100% control over the weapon, BUT i hear alot of people say why are weapons such as those needed for hunting when they themselves could use a 30.06 rifle (which would flip me as soon as i shot it) again they are going off their situation and perspective and not taking into account people like myself who was born with or disabled thru an accident or thru service to their country.

to sum it up people like myself need the ability to own these weapons to enjoy hunting as those who are not disabled do, and its getting harder for us to do so each year with new laws and the huge price jump of items such as all terrain wheelchairs, disabled adaptive hunting equipment has skyrocketed in the last couple years, ( outdoor wheelchairs $20k-$40k each, accessible equipment for a rifle ($750-$2500, accessible crossbow $1200-$2k with hand crank and such) its almost like we are being pushed out of this argument by uping the sheer cost for the gear so we have the ability to hunt.

so please before yall weigh in on wether we should make it harder or add more cost to weapons or other gear look at all perspectives and how its going to impact each american. not every disabled american has the advantages i do, my friends in the military went to DRMO (military junk yard) and built me a chair that has tank tracks so i could hunt, without the use of pistols or ability to purchase them basically i would get to go out in the woods with a friend and watch them shoot the animal for me, and thats not really hunting it is a a spectator sport at that point.

Your question is designed to bring out all the nut cases who oppose limiting who can buy and sell guns. These opponents of laws controlling sales don't see the discon- nect. They claim limiting sales voids their right to keep and bear arms which they want to use for hunting or to protect themselves against other gun owners. I haven't seen too many who hunt with hand guns. I haven't seen many enlisting which is what the amendment implies. I wonder why we limit the rights of other countries to buy arms. Everybody needs a gun, don't they?

David said it all! People need to stop being politically correct! When Army doctors meet a nut case in their profession they should not have to fear for their career! Guns do not kill, people do! Look at the second amendment of the Constitution:"people have the right to keep and bare arms!" As long as that is true, no government attacks the people they govern!
