Area blood drives encourage post-holiday donations

Longview — If there’s one thing Dr. Moyne Kornman knows, it’s that there is no substitute for human blood.
“We’ve made some amazing strides in medical innovation over the past 50 years or so, but when a person needs a blood transfusion, it has to come from another human being,” said Kornman, medical director of the Longview Regional Medical Center laboratory and the Diagnostic Clinic of Longview laboratory. “A person who is willing to give, quite literally, of himself or herself.”
January is National Blood Donor Month, and Kornman said she believes this month was chosen because it’s a time of year when blood donations dip to annual lows.
