A Longview woman armed herself and approached the front door of her Pine Tree home when her guard dogs began barking loudly at 2:45 a.m. Friday.

When her warnings, which included the sound of her taking off the gun’s safety and cocking the weapon, were answered by calls for help, she asked what was wrong.

The voice in the dark said he had been attacked, stabbed by a hitchhiker he had met earlier in the neighborhood. Edi Flowers called her six dogs inside from behind their electric fence, invited the injured man inside the home she shares with her husband and called 911.
Giving a description of the man’s new car to police en route, Flowers said officers spotted the vehicle and gave chase. An overnight manhunt ensued when the driver abandoned the car, with multiple Longview police officers assisted by a law enforcement helicopter, she said.

It is not known whether the man’s assailant was captured. Police spokeswoman Kristie Brian said information on the overnight incident would not be available until Monday.

Very WISE woman to arm herself! And very good of her to help a man in distress.

I hope the victim recovers fully and the carjackers caught (and charged with carjacking and aggravated assault.) And the victim learns not to pick up strangers!
