Area residents hold prayer rally for girls kidnapped in Nigeria
Longview — Since April 14, more than 275 Nigerian girls ages 12 to 15 have been kidnapped and forced into the sex trade.
That realization has hit home with LaRaslum Williams.
“It breaks my heart,” she said.
Williams, founder of YU? Youth Resources and a mother of two daughters, organized a prayer rally for the missing girls Wednesday night at Lobo Stadium.
More than 30 people attended the rally, holding fliers that read, “#BringBackOurGirls.”
“There is no way to explain what it would be like to not know what has happened to your daughter and not being able hear her voice,” Williams said. “The girls thought their captors were military men coming to protect them so they can learn. Education is viewed as a sin in Nigeria, and women are not allowed to be educated.”
Armed with a microphone, Williams called for action in the community.
