As ridership increases, Longview Transit buys larger buses
Longview — Five percent more people rode city buses in 2013 than the year before, according to new information released by Longview Transit. The organization hopes new, larger buses will help handle the increased ridership.
The data for Longview Transit’s 10th year of service shows 233,764 fares, an increase of about 11,000 from the total in 2012.
“We are excited to see the 5 percent growth, because making the changes to the routes this year, picking up people in Gladewater, all of that is instrumental with the increase we see,” said Director of Operations Tequita Mumphrey.
The total in 2012 was an increase of about 20 percent from 2011. Since its creation, Longview Transit has seen an increase of riders each year.
