LUFKIN — Aspen Power in Lufkin is idling operations until May.
KETK spoke with the plant's president, Danny Vines, on Monday afternoon. Mr. Vines says, prices had become so low that it no longer made financial sense to remain open.
Vines hopes to be able to reopen the plant in May when prices reach their peak.
The Aspen Power workforce was also reduced from 52 employees to under 20.
The plant is one of many in Texas that have had to temporarily close because of low prices. Several coal plants in the state have also shut down operations.
Vines also tells KETK, last year's rolling brownout problem will most likely be worse this year because no new plants have opened in the state.
