Attempted bank robbery; new concerns on lawless Alto
ALTO — One day after four East Texans are arrested in connection to an attempted Alto bank robbery Wednesday night, new concerns rise over the lack of a city police department due to recent budget cuts. Since June 15th, the Cherokee County Sheriff's Department has been patrolling Alto to pick up the slack, but Cherokee County Sheriff James Campbell tells KETK it's costing them both time and money to cover an additional area which puts them at 1,050 square miles. He says Wednesday's plot was an organized one, and he doesn't believe it has anything to do with the economy. Campbell says the department is doing everything in their power to ensure the people of Alto's safety.
