Attempted burglary leads to standoff, arrests in Alto

Two men suspected of trying to burglarize a grocery store are behind bars after a two hour standoff.

According to the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office, Lajarrius Jackson, 25, of Longview and Keithan Jackson, 30, of Gilmer were arrested following a two-hour stand off after allegedly burglarizing the "B & B Foods" grocery store on Highway 69 in Alto.

Officers were called after an employee spotted two men on live surveillance footage trying to steal prescription medication. When authorities arrived, the suspects were almost caught as they tried escaping through a hole cut in the back of the building, but both men were able to make it back inside the store. The suspects then got on the roof where a standoff with officers ensued.

After two hours, the suspects, Lajarrius Jackson and Keithan Jackson, were arrested and booked into the Cherokee County Jail.

Lajarrius Jackson has been charged with the following and is being held on $36,000 bond:

  • Engaged in organized criminal activity
     
  • Burglary of Building
     
  • Criminal Mischief 
     
  • False Report to Police Officer/SP Investigator/Law Enforcement 
     
  • Evading Arrest with previous conviction

Kenneth Jackson has been charged with the following and is being held on $33,000 bond:

  • Engaged in organized criminal activity
     
  • Burglary of Building
     
  • False Report to Police Officer/SP Investigator/Law Enforcement 
     
  • Criminal Mischief 
     
  • Evading Arrest
