Mark Steven Bauman, 50, has been added to the Texas 10 Most Wanted Sex Offender list with a reward of $3,000. In 2002, Bauman sexually assaulted a seven-year-old female during a six-month period. He was last seen in the Austin area in the summer of 2010 and has strong ties to Mexican and Central American immigrant communities in the Austin area.
Bauman speaks Spanish fluently, and in the past has used Spanish-language matchmaking web sites to meet women. He may currently reside in Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras or Colombia; however, anyone with a tip that leads to his arrest, inside or outside of the U.S., will receive the reward money.
Between 1997 and 2005, Bauman was arrested several times on various offenses, including alien smuggling, theft of property, bad check issuance-child support and sexual assault of a child. The last arrest stemmed from the 2002 incident.
In 2006, Bauman traveled for a week, on two occasions, to Guadalajara, Mexico. In January 2007, a woman traveled from Guadalajara to Texas to accuse him of sex-related crimes. In March 2007, Bauman’s parole officer reported that he had gone missing. The Austin Police Department subsequently issued four warrants for his arrest, including possession of child pornography, improper photography or visual recording, failure to comply with sex offender registration requirements and probation violation (original offense: sexual assault of a child).
These warrants were later turned over to the Travis County Sheriff’s Office. In May 2007, the U.S. Marshals issued an additional warrant for Bauman’s arrest for unlawful flight to avoid prosecution. In December 2010, a federal warrant was issued for his arrest for failure to register as a sex offender.
Bauman is a white male, 5 feet 11 inches, 170 pounds and has used the aliases Mark Stephen Bauman, Marcos Bauman and Stephen Bauman. He should be considered armed and dangerous.
