Tyler police have identified the victim who was hit and killed by a car late Monday night.

Police tell KETK, the man has been identified as Kenneth Linnel Jones, Jr., 23, of Tyler.

The accident happened around 10:30 p.m., Monday night at the intersection of North Northwest Loop 323 and Highway 110 North.

Officers tell KETK, Jones was killed after being hit by several cars while trying to cross the loop. He had managed to make it to the median after crossing the northbound lanes, but was struck by passing cars while trying to cross the southbound section. We're told he was not at a designated crosswalk.

Initially, Jones was struck by a vehicle that did not stop and continued southbound. Two other cars were unable to get out of the way and also hit the man. The latter vehicles stopped and called police.

Jones was dead when officers arrived on scene.

After further investigation, police determined that the suspect vehicle is some sort of Chevrolet, after finding a loose emblem at the scene. It is expected that the vehicle will have front end damage.

No other injuries have been reported.
