Bates Container breaks ground on new facility

Work began Monday on a $6.3 million, 110,000-square-foot facility for a corrugated box manufacturer expanding its footprint in Longview.

“The company leased a 32,000-square-foot building (10 years ago) ... and has just been growing ever since,” said Lester Lucy, president of the Longview Economic Development Corp. board of directors.

“(They) are a great part of our community.”

Earlier this month, LEDCO announced it had agreed to give about 19 acres in the Longview Business Park, near Interstate 20, to North Richland Hills-based Bates Container to build the facility, which will lead to 15 new full-time jobs.

“Our company is really growing. Our San Antonio location has just gone through a big expansion three years ago,” said Barry Hamblett, a Bates vice president and general manager of the Longview plant.
