We throw the phrase “end of an era” around a lot, but in the case of the smith county sheriff’s race, it’s accurate.
For roughly 36 years Smith County has had one Sheriff, J.B.Smith has presided over a department that has seen a lot of changes.
And now, someone else will take the reigns.
There will be a new sheriff, and the voters will have four men to choose from.
Bobby Garman is the chief Deputy in the department.
Larry Smith is a former Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms agent.
Chris Green is the former Smith County Game Warden.
And Donn Rust is a businessman and reserve Captain in Constable Precinct 3.
They share their visions for the department in this story.

I have learned a lot about the activities of those who work under, and for Sheriff J.B. Smith. Within the confines of Smith County and it's jails, many are falsely accused of crimes, inmates are assaulted with no fear of being answerable for those crimes. I know personally of police dishonesty and lying, I have been seriously injured by a guard when in custody. My family members were prevented "by police" from photographing the injury. Let us hope to see an end to this corruption. Good Riddance!
OK, one more time to try to explain how news works. The opinion, personal or otherwise, was not mine. It was Sheriff J.B. Smith's. You apparently want me to exercise news judgement to withhold that because it doesn't seem to favor Larry. You need to speak to J.B. not me. I thought news critics like you usually worry about us deciding what you should know. Now you seem to desire that.
That may be my first "elitist" comment. I'm touched. J.B.'s comment was in reaction to Larry's description of the job. My question to you is, should I have left that out? Should I decide what the viewer needs to know regarding the incumbant's opinion on the subject? Incidently, if you truly listened this morning, despite acknowleged differences, I declined judgement on a man who died far too young. And, unlike the Sherrod case, Larry was not edited to change the meaning of what he said.
Actually, I did "truly listen", and I recall your reference to Breitbart as a "Hack" sounding very similiar to "judgement". I, like many others are not stupid, we know this is a sweeps piece and would be rather borish if not for creative editing. The point is that these small inferences are there at "your" discretion, and add nothing to the information that is presented other than your personal opinion. Personal opinions have no place in true journalism. We have cable news for that.
Don't you just love how elitist "journalists" like Roger, who believe they are above reproach, will edit a piece to further thier agenda. Example: Larry: "I will get up at 2am to lead a homicide investigation" JB: "Your CRAZY if you jump in the car for something like that". What makes this even more disgusting is that Roger was on the radio this morning judging Breitbart for the Shirley Sherrod edit.....way to go Roger....Good Riddance, stick to those stupid car reviews.
