In a few weeks schools across East Texas will start which means many working parents will be placing their children in after-school care. After-school programs are offered at a variety of places such as schools, churches, and community outreach centers.

These programs offer everything from games, and snacks, to education and tutoring.

For years the University of Texas at Tyler has been working with East Texas schools on their after-school programs. UT Tyler just received a grant of 11 million dollars that will allow them to help with middle schools in the area over a span of five years.

Grant author, Eric Crow, tells KETK 150 UT Tyler students will help with this program, saying, "They'll make a connection with those students and then that'll turn into conversations about their math homework or their science homework."

The schools UT Tyler will be working with are Chapel Hill Middle School, Winona ISD, Hubbard Middle School, Moore Middle School, Hogg Middle School, as well as Azleway Charter School and Azleway Charter School-Willow Bend.
