Tyler , TX (KETK) — If you haven't noticed already, but spring wildflowers are in full bloom and create a very scenic drive down the highway. The experts said this is the best it's been in years.
"This year, it's one of the prettiest wildflower years I have seen in a long time," said landscaper James Wilhite.
April showers definitely bring May flowers. It's not May yet, but a lot of flowers especially the wildflowers are blooming beautifully.
"I've been wondering why they're so nice this year. I think partly it's because the cold weather has hold back the warm season grasses that competed in the same space as the wildflowers," said Wilhite.
We may not have not been huge fans of the icy, cold winter but the wildflowers definitely were.
"Those have been held back by the cool temperatures and allowed the wildflowers to stand up and really show off" said Wilhite.
You'll see some Indian paint brushes, native flocks, and other beautiful wildflowers.
"Some in little strange patches and some just spread out as far as you can see."
Wilhite said by Mother's Day these flowers, will dwindle away and the summer wildflowers will start blooming.
"We will have evening primrose that are pink, blooming in a couple weeks and then come coreopsis that are yellow, then in the summer we have gaillardia so we have a really long season of wildflowers blooming here," said co-owner of Blue Moon Gardens Mary Wilhite.
So, when you take a drive down any highway or the hill country, you'll see what this spring has blessed us with.
