An East Texas bicyclist who was hit by an SUV Tuesday evening is now in stable condition at a local hospital.

According to the Tyler Police Department at around 8:10 p.m., Kristin Blaise, 42, of Tyler, was hit by an SUV driven by 20-year-old Devin Hunter in the 7500 block of Old Jacksonville Highway near Fresh.

Police tell KETK, Blaise and a group of riders were biking in the outer northbound lane of the highway. Hunter was also traveling northbound and was using his cell phone. When he went to put it away, he suddenly saw Blaise but could not avoid contact.

Hunter was cited for failing to control speed.

Blaise, a New York native who now resides in Tyler, was taken to a local hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries and is now said to be in stable condition.

We have just as much right to be on the roads as cars, trucks etc. Please share and be kind.

When are these idiots going to realize that cars and bicycles don't mix, our roads are for cars, trucks and motorcycles only, not bicycles, 4 wheelers, horses, golf carts, etc. Use some common sense people.

Are you freaking kidding me? How about phones and cars don't mix!!! Get real.

Ride bicycles on the road at your own risk then if you want to be that dumb. Drivers have enough things to look out for as it is without adding bicycles to the list, and yes people using phones are a big problem to. All the more reason not to ride on the road.

She's in the hospital suffering and you're calling her dumb for riding her bicycle legally on the road. Your username is SUZUKI rider. Do you ever ride your suzuki on the road? She was well in her right to ride. She had lights and reflectors, they all did and they were on the SIDE of the road. He (the driver) admitted to being on his cell phone, and he was given a speeding ticket. Driver error. My cousin is one of the most amazing people I know and she's in pain. Shame on you.
