TYLER, TEXAS (KETK) — It's been three years in the making construction is in high gear for The Village at Cumberland Park shopping center. This is an 80 acre property that's going have shopping and dining.
"It's a huge project in fact when it started it may still be the largest retail development project in the whole state of Texas," said Tom Mullins, Economic Development Department, Tyler Chamber of Commerce. The Villages at Cumberland Park in Tyler located on South Broadway near Toll 49 provides close to 7,000 feet of retail space.
We're told this new shopping center will make a huge economic impact on not only Tyler, but East Texas by creating more jobs.
"It will create millions of dollars in new value, tax value in Tyler, and employee close to 2000 people," said Mullins. The new project will be attracting people from all over East Texas because of the location and Toll 49.
"I actually live an hour and I can either drive to Mesquite or I can drive her to Tyler and I chose Tyler every time, and we desperately need the stores it's going to be a great welcome," Renee Timpleton, Tyler shopper.
Through city planning and community feedback certain retail stores and dining were selected for the new shopping center. "I've lived in Houston I've in Tampa Florida they have those kinds of malls there and very excited, I like the stores that are going in, I'm a huge fan of World Market so I can't wait for it to open," said "Elizabeth Correll, Tyler shopper.
Construction is moving rapidly, there was a delay on construction because of all the rain we've had during the winter and spring months. "A lot of the stores are shooting to open up late this summer or sometime this fall before the Christmas season."
"We're it could take up to at least two more years for all the finishing touches to be complete," said Mullins.
