Biometric cards for all Americans

TYLER-A new solution proposed over illegal immigration. This time not only do non-citizens get a card to work in the U.S., but every worker in the nation. Some say it's a violation of privacy.

Democratic Senator Chuck Schumer of New York and Republican Senator Lindsey Graham of South Carolina believe a small card could be the way to prevent employers from hiring illegal immigrants. They're calling it a national biometric identification card.

Right now employers have the option of using an online system called E-verify to check whether a potential employee is here illegally. But some lawmakers have complained the system is ineffective.

Under this proposed plan, it would be mandatory that all U.S. workers, not just immigrants, be issued an identification card with embedded information.

"This program would require everyone to be fingerprinted, essentially treating everyone like a criminal in order to work," Chris Calabrese, legislative counsel for the American Civil Liberties Union.

But the biggest objections come from privacy advocates, who fear these cards would become national id cards that would track citizens.

"It will certainly cost hundreds of billions of dollars and it will be expanded like social security numbers to everything from voting to working to owning a gun," Calabrese said.

Senator Chuck Schumer and Senator Lindsey Graham plan to meet with President Obama as soon as this week to update him on their work.

An administration official said the White House has no position on the biometric card.

Why would you do this? There is a much more effective & less costly method of controlling the illegal immigration. It is called CONTROL THE BORDERS, DON'T PROVIDE THEM WELFARE BENEFITS & SOCIAL SECURITY BENEFITS! (This option would even SAVE money!)

Here's a thought. Let's require all politicians to get these cards that include not only their criminal histories and background checks, but also their voting records. Hmmmm, Lindsey Graham may be on to something after all.

Look, the situation is really quite simple. We have around 11 million illegals in the country. Deporting them is an absurd idea and it is not going to happen. Require all of them to obtain a legal driver's license and charge a fee of $500. Not only will everyone obtain this and pay the fee (do the math on the funds generated), but also we will then have a data base for the next step, which is naturalization. Naturalization is also obligatory and it should cost $3000 per person, a fee that also will be paid (do the math on the funds generated). This solves a problem that must be dealt with anyway, it halts the silly cops-and-robbers games dealing with employers of illegals, it generates much needed funds, and it allows us to move on. Now, if we could take a similar approach towards drugs and prostitution (legalize them and tax them) then we might finally be able to stop wasting time, money, and lives on things that have only gotten bigger.

So they're saying this will prevent illegal immigrants? Why didn't they say to prevent identity theft or something that made sense?

Politicians are weird.

No. Absolutely not.

The White House has no position on these cards. Yeah, right.

How much will the license be? Another fee for all Americans and using illegals to justify this horrendous invasion of privacy and freedom.
