Black Republican says GOP best reflects her values
Longview, TX — Karen Watson considered calling her book, ‘Ten Things You Don’t Know About Black Republicans.’
“And the first one was going to be that we exist,” the mortgage company owner and new author told a tea party audience Monday.
The daughter of a Dallas public school teacher who was enamored by Ronald Reagan at the 1984 Republican National Convention, Watson really called her self-published book, “Being Black and Republican in the Age of Obama: A Psychographic Study of Black Conservatives,” (Platypress, 2012, retail $20).
“It is a book to change the world,” Watson told some 80 members of We The People-Longview. “What I will be known for is the woman that is one of the ones that set the captives free.”
Watson said she initially thought black voters traditionally choose the Democratic party because they simply don’t see that conservative values best mirror their culture.
