If you're getting on a boat for fun or operating a boat game wardens want to take safety boating practices seriously they're encouraging everybody to take the boaters education. Why go to a boaters education class when you can take it at home?

If you haven't taken a course on boater education they're making it easier than ever before to stay safe on the water.

"We've got to see that proof on the boat because they'll get a little card about the size of a credit card or drivers license and it's just showing that they've taken their certification."

Game Wardens say boater education is crucial to staying safe this summer and it's as easy as going online.

"Anybody born on or after September 1st 1993 if they're operating a boat over 15 horsepower or 14 feet in length or all personal water craft and jet skis, they have to have boater education," said Brad Clark, Game Warden.

Families are encouraged to get their kids to log-on, plus parents are encouraged to take a refresher course alongside other children.

"Even if people are not required it's a good thing to have, they teach you a lot about rules and regulations," said Clark.

From start to finish it only takes about three hours. Whether you log-on or go to class the cost is the same it's only $20. When Matt Blanford sells boats he always recommends that his customers take the online course especially if they have kids. "It's important to take the course to prevent accidents on the lake, I don't think hardly anyone has drowned with a life jacket on."

"We are just trying to encourage everybody to take the boaters education it can save your life and save somebody else's life, you'll learn something promise," said Clark.
