WASHINGTON (AP) - House Speaker John Boehner says Americans have a right to think what they want, even if they're wrong about President Barack Obama's religion or birthplace.

Some people believe that Obama was born outside the U.S., making him ineligible to be president, or that he's a Muslim.

When the host of NBC television's "Meet the Press" asked Boehner whether he, as speaker of the House, had a responsibility to correct false views, Boehner said, "It's not my job to tell the American people what to think. Our job in Washington is to listen to the American people."

Boehner continued: "Having said that, the state of Hawaii has said that he was born there. That's good enough for me. The president says he's a Christian. I accept him at his word."

And this is going to accomplish what? They are not going to remove the president from office regardless of whether he lied about his citizenship or not.

In the meantime, we are starting to look like the Weimar Republic in the U.S.
