UPDATE: Suspicious item found at postal facility

An ATF agent tells KETK those responsible for the item could face possession of an explosive device and other charges depending on the situation.

The type of item can not be released at this point.

Officials from ATF first received word of the item around 11 p.m. Tuesday night. Agents are not sure the exact time the item was discovered.

How the item was found is unclear.

KETK will bring you the latest information as it becomes available.

he said he doesn't know how it was found. it was at a processing plant, so he's not sure if parts of it would be open at night or not.

KETK received reports from a local postmaster that a item was found at the East Texas Processing Facility for the United States Post Office.

The Facility is located in Owentown.

A call made to the plant Tuesday evening brought a no comment and all press inquiries are being referred to the Plant Manager Mitchell Cade today.

Our KETK news crew was on the scene. When they asked for details, the office's Distribution Supervisor would only reply to questions with "No comment."

The Smith County Sheriff's Office is referring all calls to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms.
