Bowie Co. deputy's killer sentenced to life in prison
Texarkana, Texas (KETK) — A man who shot and killed a Bowie County deputy in a local courthouse was sentenced to life in prison Thursday.
In the 202nd District Court, Tucker Strickland, 21, plead guilty to the murder of 54-year-old Deputy Sherri Jones. Back in April 2011, the convict killed her while in the courthouse basement in New Boston.
Jones was taking Strickland to a van for transfer to a state facility when Strickland overpowered her, grabbed her gun, shot her and left in the vehicle. The suspect and deceased deputy were found with the van about 30 miles away in Ashdown, Arkansas.
According to the Bowie County District Attorney's Office, Strickland was sentenced to life in prison with a possibility for parole.
