Jerrick Massenburge wasn’t alive the last time Kilgore made the playoffs in basketball, but he’s a big reason the Bulldogs are headed to the postseason this year.

Massenburge earned Player of the Week honors from the Longview News-Journal after averaging 22.5 points and seven rebounds in wins over Nacogdoches and John Tyler. He scored 28 points to go along with seven rebounds, four steals and an assist on Tuesday in a 63-61 win over Nacogdoches, and came back with 17 points, seven rebounds and five assists in a 64-56 win over John Tyler.

The win over JT clinched a playoff spot for Kilgore, and according to Kilgore News Herald sports editor Mitch Lucas, that’s the first trip to the basketball playoffs for the Bulldogs since the 1981-82 season.

Other outstanding performances:

Spring Hill’s Brandon Robbins had 24 points, five assists and three steals and teammate Ben Brundrett contributed a 10-point, 12-rebound double-double in a 65-46 win over Gilmer.

Ore City’s Deste Tatum finished with 16 points and 10 rebounds, connecting on 7-of-7 field goals, and teammate Kendrick Gilstrap pulled down 12 rebounds, dished out five assists and grabbed six rebounds in a 65-57 win over New Diana. Dalton Hildreth had 14 of his 17 points in the second half, adding six rebounds and five assists.

Harmony’s Seth Boling dropped in five three-pointers and finished with 22 points in a 73-43 win over Union Grove.

Tatum’s Cole Hughes finished with 13 points, 10 rebounds and four steals in a 71-53 win over Waskom.

Jefferson’s Cordarryl Hale had 12 points, 11 rebounds, seven blocks and three steals in a 66-45 win over Harleton. Teammate Devonte Singleton added 18 points, 10 rebounds and four steals, and David Police chipped in with seven points, 10 assists and seven steals. In a 63-29 win over Elysian Fields, Singleton had 11 points, 11 rebounds, two steals and a block and Hale finished with seven points, 10 rebounds, four blocks and three steals.

Union Hill’s Steven Radosavljveic finished with 22 points, 13 rebounds, two blocks, two assists and a steal in a 66-44 win over Bloomburg.
