'Brothers on the move' ministry providing shoes for needy children in ETX
Tyler, Texas — In January the 'Brothers on the Move' Ministry started collecting gently used and new shoes for families in need in East Texas. "A lot of people are donating clothes and they have drives for 'coats for kids' but nothing for children and shoes," Said Daniel Minton, one of the men behind the 'shoe ministry.' So far they have only gathered around 100 pairs of shoes but they hope to collect hundreds more.
Minton said, when it comes to clothing donations shoes are often overlooked. He says children grow up fast, and shoes are expensive, so providing shoes for local children, is a privilege. "Thats one less thing for a family in need to worry about, if they know their shoes will be taken care of," Minton said. The shoe ministry is accepting shoes for children two to 18 years old. "Any kind of shoes, tennis shoes, dress shoes those are always needed." said Minton, "There's lots of great international groups that bless children over seas with shoes, but, you know there's neighbors, here in East Texas that are very in need...right now lets just concentrate on blessing East Texas children."
From now until the end April 26 you can drop off new or gently used shoes to The Plaza on Rice Road in Tyler or the Bonner Street Plaza in Jacksonville.
Minton hopes more local business wrap their arms around this ministry by putting donation boxes at their business, and even starting a little friendly competition to help provide more shoes for needy kids. The ministry also plans to apply for a voucher program with Wal-mart in July to help even more families, if approved for the program Minton and 'brothers on the move' ministry will be able to provide vouchers for East Texas families to purchase new shoes from Wal-Mart stores.
