AS REPORTED IN THE NACOGDOCHES DAILY SENTINEL:

Having dipped into the reserve coffers for this year's budget, Nacogdoches County Commissioners say a different plan will have to take shape for planning the next year's budget.

Nacogdoches County will begin evaluating the budget early in the year, soon after incoming commissioners, Pct. 4 Elton Milstead and Pct. 2 Charles "Kilowatt" Thomson, finish training, Nacogdoches County Judge Joe English said.

"We do realize that just as we're seeing on the federal government and state level, locally we'll have to go in with a new commissioner's court and start budget workshops early this year," English said. "We're anticipating cutting about $1.5 million out of the budget. This isn't anything new, other counties dealt with it this year, and luckily we had reserves we could use to help us out. The sentiment of the court, and of both the new people coming in, which they campaigned on, is we will do everything we can not to raise taxes. I don't think there's anyone on the court who has intentions of raising taxes - we will find that money elsewhere in the budget."
