West Texas A&M researchers hope to clone cattle for more top-of-the-line beef
Houston — The Houston Chronicle is reporting; researchers from West Texas A&M University and partners in private industry have put a new twist on cloning cattle to try to speed up production of the highest quality beef.
In traditional cloning, a tissue biopsy is taken from a living individual to produce an identical animal. This research, however, starts with the end product - a Prime, Yield Grade 1 carcass - and works backward to a cloned-calf embryo.
