Bullard high school band earns superior ranking
Tyler , TX (KETK) — On Saturday the Bullard High School band competed in the state marching contest. They received superior rankings from the National Association of Military Marching Bands.
This is the first of three steps towards winning the Texas State Sweepstakes Award.
First is the marching contest, followed by the concert contest, and finally the sight reading contest.
Gary Jordan, the Bullard Band Director, says "If you don't make a one in the marching contest, then you're not eligible for a sweepstakes".
This superior ranking was a surprise because most of the band students are new freshman. Jordan says it, "Was a huge challenge this year because it was a very young band".
This did not stop them from receiving all ones-- the top mark.
Jordan says, "We're extremely excited about getting straights ones at both region and state contests this year".
However this meant the most to the band seniors, who were so excited they cried tears of joy.
Next on their busy schedule is the "Red, White and Blue Day Parade" on Saturday morning.
There are lots of exciting activities plans. According to Jordan, "The band is going to march around the corner at the end of the parade. We're going to sit down and we're going to do a half hour patriotic concert".
