The Bullard Solar Team is getting ready for their 1400 mile journey from Texas Motor Speedway to California Science Center in Los Angeles on July 23.

"Crossing our fingers that everything goes as planned," said team CFO Cullen Hippler.

They started building the car back in September.

The car cost $98,000 to build and maxes out at 105 miles per hour.

Hippler says they had many sponsors give them money anywhere from $20-10,000.

Hippler says they couldn't have done it without the help of East Texans.

''It's been incredible to watch people all over East Texas kind of rally around this project and around us as a team."

There will be six members of the team traveling to California.

They will all rotate drivers for the seven day journey, driving 100 to 200 miles a day.

"Everything is race car quality made to go 200 miles plus and flip around and be fine. It's very high quality," said team captain Austin Gwartney.

Gwartney says they have some extra gadgets built in their car that sets them apart from all the other teams.

They built the car with carbon fiber tubes, which makes it weigh about 300 pounds less than steel cars and is 8 times stronger.

They also will be the only team using Ham Radio to send data from the car.

"During the race, we will know how fast we can go, how much longer we can go, if we need to slow down, if we need to pull over, just how much power we've used through the day and how much power we've brought in."

The team still needs $3,000 to complete their car.
