Bullard police have been very busy lately, in fact, some residents think they are too busy.
KETK got a call from a citizen of Bullard who worried that the town was becoming a speed trap.
And, the figures sounded compelling.
According to the last census figures, Bullard has a population of just over 2400 people.
For comparison, Jacksonville to the south has 5 or 6 times that.
Jacksonville police made 8400 traffic stops in 2010.
Based on population, that should mean roughly 1700 in Bullard.
The 2010 total here was actually 7000, and they issued 3000 tickets.
But Chief Gary Lewis told us the main reason is this thing behind me, the highway overpass.
The construction speed zone led to a lot of citations.
And he said, we shouldn’t look at 2010, but 2011.
And he is right, in 2011 the total traffic stops went down to 5200 with 1647 tickets issued.
And Lewis told us, there’s just not that much revenue from tickets in a town with only an 8 man force.

Really so now our police are being criticized on the job they are doing? I am a resident in Bullard, I personally think these guys are doing a great job! Exspecialy when you consider the small budget they are forced to work with! If these people don't like the way these guys are operating, they should come put their life on the line in unpredictable situations! Or better yet they should just stop breaking the law! BPD great job protecting our city! Keep up the good work!
