On March 31, 2010 at around 8:24 p.m., Longview Officers were dispatched to
1325 Colgate Drive for a report of a burglary in progress. As officers
responded, dispatchers received a call at 8:25 p.m. that a vehicle had crashed into a home at 1301 Princeton Avenue.
As officers arrived at both scenes, it was discovered that the driver of the vehicle at the accident scene was the burglary suspect from the call on Colgate.
The burglary victim told officers that she was inside her home when she heard a loud crashing sound and saw a man enter her home through the back door. The victim screamed and the suspect fled in a small silver car. Even though the suspect fled at a high rate of speed, the victim was able to see a portion of the suspect’s license plate number.
Officers at the accident scene noted that the license plate number of the wrecked car matched the information provided by the victim. The driver, Kurt Russell, was arrested and charged with burglary of a habitation (2nd degree felony) and booked into the Gregg County Jail.
