Longview — Boxcar Bar-B-Que is the name of one of Longview’s newest restaurants.

Owner Kyle Mayfield said opening Boxcar at 2902 Gilmer Road is expected to fill a void in the Longview barbecue scene in the northwest part of the city. The eatery is at Gilmer Road’s intersection with Blue Ridge Parkway next to Jimmy’s Donuts.

Mayfield said he will be sticking with tried and true Texas-style barbecue featuring wood-smoked meats such as brisket, ribs, ham, turkey, hot links and sausage. Sides include beans, potato salad and slaw.
