Business at  The Firehouse Bar & Grill is sizzling.

The restaurant run by The Kilgore Fire Department has seen so much revenue since opening in February  that they have hired six civilian staff members to make operations run more smoothly.

Frefighters worked for months turning Meadowbrook Country Club into The Firehouse Bar & Grill.

When The Firehouse Bar & Grill opened, it was manned by rotating groups of Kilgore firefighters and one civilian chef.
The firefighters did such a good job that the restaurant has already steadily reversed the negative cash-flow and debt at the once failing Meadowbrook Country Club; enabling the city to afford to hire some help to ease the firefighter's workload at the restaurant.

They have hired six new civilian waiters, cooks and bartenders and even a restaurant manager.

Firefighters will now step out of the kitchen and work as greeters and hosts--interacting with the community, even showing off their firetrucks to children.

Assistant Chief Michael Simmons says the bar & grill is connecting the entire community.

" I moved here about two years ago..and most of the people my age would tell you there was just no place to hang out with a buddy..they'd go to Longview, to Tyler..for a sports bar and grill type venue..and so having this here it's allowing people to stay home..and not have to drive so far and hang out."
