As Christmas shopping continues, more and more people are becoming more conscious, not just about what they buy, but where it was made.

KETK spoke with one of the owners of "Made in America Emporium" in Ben Wheeler to find out what they offer, and why she felt it was important to build a small business around promoting locally made products.

KETK also caught up with a few shoppers, and found out why buying American was so important to them.

I wish you would do more stories on where to find stuff made in America because this Christmas I have been searching to find and only buy things made in America. You would be surprised at how few those items are. It got to the point to where we said ok let's just buy something not made in China. I don't know if everybody is aware of this or not but China does not have our best interest at heart. Look at a the recalls and poisons found in China made things. Even the Chinese buy American.

I bought a pair of American-made boots at Cavender's Western Wear, paid nearly five times what I paid for my last pair of Chinese-made boots but I hope to get eight times the wear out of them. They didn't have any American-made boots at Academy or even at the Army/Navy Surplus store, and precious few at Cavenders.

I think we would all like to buy American, problem is what, a few homemade trinkets? In case you haven't noticed we now let foreigners make everything for us thanks to NAFTA, and that includes the majority of the food you eat. The kicker is that you still pay the same price for it as you would have if it were made right here in the good ol USA, but big business makes a killing by having it made overseas with slave labor instead of paying Americans a decent wage. Your government at work for you.
