Capital murder suspects in death of Longview man go before judge

Shackled and chained, capital murder defendants in the death of a mentally disabled man stood Wednesday before 115th District Court Judge Lauren Parish for formal arraignment.

Sarah Haslam, 20, and Andrew Norwine, 21, appeared with their attorneys to enter pleas to the charges they kidnapped and killed Ronnie Joe Gammage of Longview in December.

Upshur County District Attorney Billy Bryd read charges from the indictment returned by a grand jury in March, accusing Haslam and Norwine of knowingly causing the death of 27-year-old Gammage.
