Car accident causes gas leak in Gregg County, several homes evacuated

A car accident caused a gas leak overnight in Gregg County and about a dozen homes had to be evacuated.

It happened around 11:45 p.m. Sunday evening, according to the Gregg County Sheriff's Office, a car hit a gas mieter at a home in the Lakeport area off of Highway 322 in Longview.

A natural gas leak forced authorities to evacuate the area within a one mile radius.

Residents were out of their homes for only a few hours before returning home.

Highway 322 was shutdown in both directions but was re-opened early Monday morning.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported but the accident is still being investigated at this time.
