A 6 year-old Cincinnati girl is in critical condition following a vicious pit bull attack. Zainabou Drame's family say two dogs chased and mauled her last week. Police dash cam video show officers responding to the attack, Emily Wood reports.

The 6-year-old girl was playing on this side of the street on Aquadale.

Her and her friends saw the dog. Some ran over this way. She tried to run back to her house for safety. The dogs found her, dragged her body across the street and landed on this fence right here next to the dog owner's home. And it took police just a few minutes to respond.

Ofc. Kyle Strunk, Cincinnati Police Dept., "You knew it was going to be bad but you couldn't prepare yourself for how bad it was."

Three minutes from the initial call, officers were on scene, ready to help.

Once the two dogs ran off, officers fired several shots killing both pit bulls.

Kye Strunk is a nine year veteran police officer and says he's never seen anything like it, "Nobody ever wants to see anything like that, to think about the images that will never leave your head, unfortunately that is part of this job sometimes."

Strunk says one of his fellow officers, who did not want to be named, stayed by Drame's side the entire time and walked with her to the ambulance.

Training Commander Captain Doug Weisman says the officers should be commended, "Essentially what I saw here was a professional police response to a crisis situation where somebody was in grave danger of being killed. And I mean I got to say I'm impressed with the District Three officers that responded to this."

Also impressed is Drame's grandfather, Leslie McElrath. He says she wouldn't have lived if the officers had not stepped in, "The dog had her by the face so the dog pulled her skin off, they broke her jaw, her tongue is gone, every time I think about my little baby."

The victim lives just five doors down from the dog owner Zontae Irby's house. No charges have been filed against him in relation to this attack, but he was arrested on drug and weapons charges.

People need to take responsibility for their dogs, more than just feeding and watering them. The owner should have serious charges brought against him. Evidently a dope dealer the neighbors should have reported a long time ago.
