Chase on I-20 caught on tape

SMITH COUNTY — A disgruntled boyfriend steals his girlfriend's car and leads police on a chase along I-20.

Deputies say, when they tracked down this Chevrolet Impala, he was only going as fast as 40 miles an hour.

He first headed east and got on access road — leading officers west on I-20 — just before getting to Hwy. 155.

That's where Constable John Smith got involved. He did what's called a "pit manuever" — bumping the car.

Even after veering off the road, the driver keeps going.

Constable Smith has to bump him off the busy highway once again, before the driver's surrounded.

But even then, the driver struggles to get away.

Dashcam video shows deputies telling him to stop, "put it in park and get out, get out."

"We didn't know if he was armed. We couldn't see in the car," says Smith; "it was a hazard for everybody."

Deputies finally cuffed Michael Travis Mills. The 30-year-old is not just charged with stealing his girlfriend's car, but evading arrest.

We've found out Mills has been arrested several times before on charges of resisting arrest and possession of marijuana.
