These days, what's happening on the sidelines of a football game is sometimes just as strenuous as the action on the field.

Cheerleading has evolved quite a bit since the years of a simple chant with some pom poms.

A new report shows cheerleading injuries are on the rise.

Dr. Joe Glenn has a masters degree in sports science, and says about two-thirds of catastrophic injuries in high school students actually come from cheerleaders.

Some still don't quite see it as an official sport, though.

The American Academy of Pediatrics is pushing for that to be changed.

That would mean more regulation when it comes to physicals, better medical care, and more training for coaches.
