Cherokee County crash kills child, injures 3 others Thursday evening

A Thursday evening car crash in Cherokee County killed a 1-year-old boy and sent three others to the hospital.

According to the Department of Public Safety, the crash happened around 6 p.m. along Highway 79, near farm-to-market road 4209.

Authorities say that the driver, Jose Luis Arrendondo, 28, of New Summerfield, lost control of the SUV and crashed into a tree. He suffered severe brain trauma, and is in serious condition at a local hospital.

A one year-old boy, Alexis Arrendondo, was pronounced dead on the scene. He was in a baby seat at the time of the crash.

His sister, 10 month-old Vanessa Arrendondo, and the children's mother, Ana Rosa Torres, 21, were also taken to a local hospital and are reportedly in stable condition.

They were all wearing seatbelts.

There were no other vehicles involved in the wreck.
