A 7-year-old boy drowned at Cypress Black Bayou Park and Recreation Area in Benton, Louisiana, on Monday afternoon.

The child was swimming with family and friends near the public swimming area around the Marina at Cypress Lake.

Family and friends noticed the child was no longer visible and began to search. Numerous by-standers made an organized line to search for the child. The child was found and pulled from the lake and at that time Bossier deputies and an off-duty paramedic began CPR on the child

Officials called in air flight to take the child to the closest trauma unit, but they were never able to revive the child and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The child’s name is being withheld pending notification of family members.
